North American Airlines

History

North American Airlines began operations in 1954 out of Los Angeles CA until it was renamed Trans American Airlines in 1956 due to a name similarity lawsuits by American Airlines and North American Aviation. It operated under the umbrella of the North American Aircoach system along with Hemisphere, Trans American, Trans National, and 20th Century. By combining these non-skeds they could offer daily low-fare flights coast to coast and to Florida which allowed them to get around the CAB's rule of eight flights per month between any two cities. It was the first non-sked to offer non-stop transcontinental service when new DC-6's arrived. They also operated DC-4's and DC-3's which were used for extra sections when required.
