History
In 1948 Benjamin Pepper formed World Airways with a fleet of three Boeing 314 Clippers. It was later sold to Beroviche Steamship Company and a Curtiss C-46 was added to the fleet. In 1950 it was bought by Edward Daly, who improved the fleet by leasing a Douglas DC-4. In 1951 it received its first of many government contracts. In 1956 it received a contract to fly transAtlantic refugee flights to Vienna during the Hungarian Revolution. After the revolution World Airways received a Military Air Transport Service (MATS) contract to provide daily inter-island service between Tokyo, Okinawa, Taiwan and Manila in support of US troops in the western Pacific. World played a major role in the Vietnam war, it and other airlines provided airlift for military personnel and material across the Pacific.
